Who delivers electricity in League City

Texas-New Mexico Power Company (TNMP) names League City among the municipalities in its Southeast Texas service area, in Chapter 2 of its Tariff for Retail Delivery Service (read October 19, 2026). The same list includes Texas City, Dickinson, La Marque and Friendswood. TNMP owns the poles and wires; it does not sell you electricity. You buy electricity from a retail electric provider you choose, and TNMP delivers it.

Switching providers does not change that. Power to Choose, the PUCT's shopping site, says switching to another electric company will not interrupt your service, and the same wires company keeps delivering your power.

The tariff says it covers the areas "generally described" in that list, so it does not map street by street. Check the delivery company shown on your bill to confirm yours. Some areas are served by a municipal utility or an electric cooperative, and the PUCT says you can choose your provider where you are not served by one of those.

TNMP residential delivery charges

These are the charges TNMP reported to the PUCT for residential customers. They reach you through your retail plan: a plan's Electricity Facts Label (EFL) may list them as separate lines or include them in one energy price.

The utilities file these summaries with the PUCT every month, so check the PUCT page for the current figures before you compare plans.

Worked example: delivery cost alone

Delivery cost each month = customer charge + metering charge + (usage in kWh × $0.07771). The two monthly charges add up to $1.70 + $5.86 = $7.56.

Monthly usageArithmeticDelivery costDelivery per kWh
500 kWh$7.56 + (500 × $0.07771)$46.429.28 cents
1,000 kWh$7.56 + (1,000 × $0.07771)$85.278.53 cents
2,000 kWh$7.56 + (2,000 × $0.07771)$162.988.15 cents

Totals are rounded to the cent (half a cent rounds up). The PUCT page lists its own average bills at the same usage levels. Small differences from this arithmetic come from rounding in the listed rate; where a figure differs, check the utility's tariff. This is only the delivery part: your provider's energy charge, any base charge or credit, and taxes come on top.

Delivery per kWh falls as usage rises, because the $7.56 in monthly charges is spread over more kWh. For scale, EIA reports that the average Texas home used 1,096 kWh a month in 2024 (EIA Table 5A, 2024 data).

How League City compares with Dallas

Dallas is in Oncor's territory, where delivery at 1,000 kWh comes to $72.73 (as of November 1, 2026). TNMP delivery at the same usage is $85.27. At 500 kWh the figures are $38.40 for Oncor and $46.42 for TNMP, and at 2,000 kWh they are $141.41 and $162.98.

So the same energy price can produce a different bill in each area, even when a provider passes delivery through at cost. That is why you should compare plans using the delivery charges for your own address, not a number you saw for another city. Houston is in CenterPoint's territory, where delivery at 1,000 kWh is $70.23 (as of November 1, 2026); see the Houston page and the Dallas page for those breakdowns.

How to use the calculator with TNMP numbers

  1. Open the true-cost calculator and enter your monthly usage from a recent bill.
  2. Open the EFL for each plan you are comparing and copy its energy charge, base charge and any bill credit with its usage limits.
  3. If the EFL lists delivery charges separately, enter 7.7710 in "Delivery charge (cents per kWh)" and 7.56 in "Delivery charge ($ per month)", or the EFL's own figures if they differ.
  4. If the EFL folds delivery into a single energy price, leave both delivery boxes empty so you do not count delivery twice.
  5. Compare the true price per kWh at your own usage, and try a summer month and a winter month.

Common questions

What is a cheap electricity rate in League City right now?

On November 3, 2026, among 41 fixed-rate 12-month plans on Power to Choose for homes on these wires, the lowest average price at 1,000 kWh without minimum-usage fees or bill credits was 11.6 cents per kWh, a quarter of plans were at or below 13.6 cents, and the median was 14.3 cents. Check the plan's Electricity Facts Label at your own usage before you sign.

Does switching providers change who delivers my power in League City?

No. TNMP keeps delivering power whichever provider you pick, and Power to Choose (the PUCT's website) says switching will not interrupt your electricity service.

Why is delivery in League City different from Dallas?

League City is in TNMP's territory and Dallas is in Oncor's, and each utility has its own regulated charges. As of November 1, 2026, TNMP delivery at 1,000 kWh is $85.27, against $72.73 for Oncor.

Can a fixed-rate plan go up if TNMP's charges change?

Yes, but only for actual changes in delivery (TDU) charges, ERCOT or Texas Regional Entity fees, or new laws, under 16 TAC 25.475(b)(5). The provider cannot raise the price for other reasons during the term.

Who sets TNMP's delivery charges?

The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) regulates delivery rates. It does not set the final price that retail electric providers charge you.
